Key West currently has two dedicated alcohol-free kava venues on Fleming Street: Kava Key at 420 Fleming Street and Kava Culture at 901 Fleming Street. Both offer late-night social space without alcoholic drinks. The important part is that kava, kratom and other botanical products have their own effects and risks, so ask exactly what is in a drink before ordering.

Where can you find alcohol-free kava bars in Key West?

Kava Key and Kava Culture Key West are the two current options I found and verified.

What is Kava Key like?

The official Florida Keys tourism directory describes Kava Key as a non-alcoholic bar with seating, a game room, a library and a porch. The business uses a pirate-ship theme.

Kava Key's own menu page lists traditional kava drinks, brewed teas, kombucha, house drinks, kava ice cream and ramen. The tourism directory also lists mocktail recipes and Cuban coffee.

The business's homepage says it is open daily from noon to 2 a.m. The same page still contains some older launch language, so I'd call before relying on the schedule.

What is Kava Culture Key West like?

Kava Culture's official Key West page lists its location at 901 Fleming Street and says it is open daily from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. It describes Wi-Fi, a backyard seating area, games and a dedicated music space.

Its Key West page lists kava, elixirs, kanna and CBD drinks. The company's main website describes its bars as serving drinks with zero alcohol.

Don't assume a posted “events every week” message means a particular event is scheduled. The Key West calendar showed no upcoming events when reviewed. Check the current calendar or contact the location if music or an event is the reason you're going.

Does alcohol-free mean sober or risk-free?

No. A venue can be alcohol-free while serving products that have their own effects, interactions and health risks.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says kava products have been linked to rare cases of liver injury. It also says kava should not be combined with alcohol or other substances that have sedative effects, and that people who take medicine should discuss kava or other herbal products with a health care provider.

Some local kava-bar menus also list kratom. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns consumers against using kratom because of serious risks, including liver toxicity, seizures and substance use disorder. FDA also says there are no legally marketed prescription or over-the-counter drug products containing kratom.

Here's what matters before ordering:

  • Ask for the full ingredient list, including kava, kratom, kanna, CBD or concentrated extracts.
  • Ask whether a drink contains alcohol or any ingredient you are avoiding.
  • Don't treat a botanical drink as a medical treatment.
  • If medication, pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver concerns or recovery affect the decision, discuss the product with the appropriate health professional.

If your goal is simply to socialize without alcohol, you can ask for a coffee, tea, soft drink or another option without the botanical ingredients you want to avoid. Verify the actual ingredients rather than relying on the word “alcohol-free.”

How does alcohol-free nightlife fit into living in Key West?

Both dedicated venues are on Fleming Street, but they serve different parts of the day and offer different environments. A map alone won't tell you which one fits your routine.

For a buyer, I'd want to test the trip at the time it would actually happen. Walk or drive the route in the evening. Check parking, bike access, lighting, activity around the block and the trip home. Then compare that with the property you're considering.

Keep the real-estate analysis separate. Access to a late-night social space doesn't establish a home's value. Property condition, legal use, insurance, ownership costs and resale considerations still need their own due diligence.
